Ilze makes a transition to Yonoton after working for several years in the field of designing in various of companies in the Baltics.
Tell us little bit about your background?
In Latvia, I was working as a designer in Delfi, a well-known internet media company (the biggest one in the Baltics, actually). After nearly 8 years there, I took a much needed break which coincided with relocating to Estonia with my boyfriend, and not long after - to Finland. I decided to take it as an opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and reshape my career into a more user-centric design direction, which I had long been curious about. It took me some time, a lot of learning, but here I am, armed with both prior experience and fresh knowledge!
Why Yonoton?
An opportunity to be there as the company grows and directly shape the evolving products; a great team just the right size; a true tech SaaS company (a first for me, and I’m enjoying the learning).
Yonoton’s future insights?
I remember glancing through Yonoton’s landing page for the first time and thinking, “Oh, this is pretty cool!” I have no doubt Yonoton’s services are filling a long-unmet demand that will only grow as the digitalisation of everyday life speeds up.
Experience from scaleups?
In my previous workplace, I started as a the only designer but ended up leading a team of four, so yes. During my time there, the office physically took over larger and larger portion of the building. Certainly challenging but exciting times.
Yonoton is growing rapidly – expectations?
Here I could repeat what I said above - I have a lot of faith in Yonoton’s value proposition and products. Things are looking up :)
Name one achievement that you are most proud of?
If I have to choose only one, it would probably be the building of subscription (paywall) service for online media readers. That was a risky product, being the first one of its kind in Latvia. Not only was it (continues to be) a success, but also served as an icebreaker for other media businesses to create their own paywall services soon after. It was working on this product that made me start considering going deeper into digital product design / UX.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I like to draw, either with a graphite pencil, or digitally. I’m interested in most human sciences: history, architecture, linguistics etc. and often find myself down some rabbit hole related to one of those. I’m also a Dungeons & Dragons newbie, having gotten into it just recently here in Helsinki.
